Newly Arrived Waxed Cotton 'Ryder' Jacket from Curzon Classics

Waxed Cotton 'Ryder' Jacket from Curzon Classics

I have purchased a number of great items from Curzon Classics over the years, all of which I have been completely happy with.  This latest waxed cotton 'Ryder' jacket in green is no exception - I couldn't be more pleased.  Before I go any further, I want to let you know that Curzon Classics has this great jacket offered at a very great discount off their already extremely competitive price, so I recommend that if you've been considering a waxed cotton jacket, you should head over to the website right away and snag yours before they're gone.

This jacket is extremely well made in England from waxed linen Japara 6 Cupra cloth manufactured in England by heritage cloth mill British Millerain.  I purchased size large, which fits very well on my 6' 2" inch (188cm), 191 lb/87 kg frame.  These jackets are cut very roomy to allow for plenty of layering, which I like because wearing it my one of my chunky Aran or Guernsey fisherman sweaters makes for a beautiful combination.  The Length of this jacket is just the right to land about mid-hip, which I think is a great length, although not long enough to cover a sports coat, that won't be a problem, as with the internal knit sleeve cuff, I wouldn't be wearing it over another jacket in any case.

This jacket boasts the following features:
  • Rear vents for maximum comfort.
  • Brass 2-way zip with large ring pull and studded storm flap.
  • Snap throat latch.
  • Four large external pockets - Two bellows and two lined hand-warmer pockets.
  • Two inner pockets - one zippered, which I really appreciate!
  • Corduroy collar in contrasting brown.
  • Knit internal sleeve cuffs.
  • Detachable hood.
While I have not yet spent a great deal of time in the rain, as so can't testify to its assurance of waterproofness, given the heritage and reputation of Japara 6 Cupra cloth, I have no doubt that this jacket is up to the task.  I have spent time walking in the local forest in windy conditions and it works great for wind-cheating.

Today's outfit: Can't go wrong with Vintage Harris Tweed and Prince of Wales Fair Isle Pullover

Today's outfit is just a classic combo made a bit livelier by the addition of a green Harris Tweed with Red, Black, Blue, and Gold overcheck and the ever classic Price of Wales patterned Fair Isle sweater.  This pullover Fair Isle Pattern was made famous by the portrait of the young Prince of Wales wearing this sweater which was no double hand knitted for him as a gift and which he loved so much that he wore it for this portrait.  This version was knitted by Jamieson's of Shetland, who are rightly famous for their Fair Isle knitwear.  Sadly, I have not found anywhere that this version is currently available.  unfortunately, Jamieson's doesn't sell direct to the public, but Dick's of Edinburgh typically offers a good selection of designs.

Harris Tweed is resurfacing again in one of my favorite vintage sports jackets - green with over check in black, red, gold and blue.  The one you'll no doubt recognize from the header of this blog and one which I expect to soon do a close-up and review.

Green Tweed Hunter jacket by Curzon Classics and Tweed Close-ups

Today's featured tweed is a great looking hunter jacket from Seville based Curzon Classics.  I have had the good fortune to purchase a number of items from Curzon Classics in the past year and while I think they're all great, this is the one Along with the scarf also featured that I find my self most often wearing.  Curzon is having an amazing 45% off sale on all their tweed jackets until Feb 14th, so I strongly recommend heading over to a killer deal on a great tweed.  I'm actually eyeing their Trent jacket using a great checked tweed from the mills of Abraham Moon!

This is a great looking and subtle green tweed, which like all tweeds has a wonderful texture and variations color in the cloth upon closer inspection.  When I bought this jacket I was really looking for the classic half Norfolk look, with bellows patch pockets, action back sleeves and half belt back tailoring.  This jacket ticked all those boxes, one slight surprise was that the action back sleeves are faux and are stitched down for some reason.  No matter, a quick trip to my alterations tailor can fix that problem if I wish.  This jacket has a great fit - lean without being tight, these run small so I bought the size 56 (US size 46) in order to have the room to layer it with a pullover.  The bellows pockets look really great and while I normally prefer a slightly softer shoulder, it's in no way a deal breaker.  I think the jacket overall look rather smart.

Very functional bellows pockets allows for pocketing treasures while on long walks in the countryside:

The Close-ups for my own enjoyment and for that of my tweed obsessed brethren:

Fully lined, which I prefer for tweeds, as it adds a bit more warmth:

Bonus feature:
The wonderful check scarf you see in some of the above photos is also from Curzon Classics (they are having a great 20% off sale storewide until Feb. 14th).  While I believe this scarf is sold out, they do have a number of others in stock.  It's super soft lambswool and is long enough to use my preferred double wrap method (nothing worse than a too short scarf).  These are generously proportioned at 10 x 66 inches, not including fringe.  Thankful to have it today, since Winter has made it's return to Bavaria today after many days of relatively balmy weather - Snow!!

Review: Tweed Flat Cap by Curzon Classics - Tweed Closeups Included

Hi tweed lovers, There is nothing like a really great tweed flat cap to keep one's head warm and dry when the weather takes a turn for the worst.  Knit caps, hoods, and a good fur or wool felt hat all have their place in in the classic man's wardrobe, but without a great tweed flat cap, so far as I'm concerned, there is a large hole in a man's headgear options.  This snappy looking flat cap from Curzon Classics will is just the thing to warm a mans head on a cold afternoon on the moors (OK, we have no moors here in Germany, but we've got a lot of countrysides that gets pretty cold too).   Based in Seville Spain, Curzon Classics has been making great classic British men's wear since 1990.  Twenty-seven years in business have taught them well about providing great products and great service.

This one is Tweed Cap No. 8 - a great looking houndstooth tweed in autumnal shades including greens, tan, brown, orange and red, so it's easy to match with just about any tweed jacket I choose.

A quality built from a beautifully woven tweed that's been Teflon treated for waterproofness, and with a light green lining, this cap will keep you warm, dry and extremely stylish through just about anything mother nature wants to throw your way.  Curzon Classic is having a great 20% sale right now off their already very reasonable prices, so now's a great time to add to your stylish hear wear options without breaking the bank.  I've purchased a number of great pieces from Curzon Classics over the past couple of years (plenty of reviews to come) and have been satisfied with both their service and their quality.

The closeups for my tweed obsessed brethren:
